The Box Canyon area offers protected water on windy days when other areas of the lake are not accessible due to large waves. The canyon area features steep drops and rocky canyons.

The boat ramp at Box Canyon also offers a good launching spot to access the upper reaches of Lake Amistad.

This area is reach most easily by launching at the Box Canyon boat ramp. All but a small portion of the road from US90 to the ramp has been recently paved making the drive a smooth one.

Be sure to stop by Diablo East or the National Park office to get your boat permit.  The automated permit machine has been removed from Box Canyon.
